Type 2 Diabetes (elevated blood sugars), hypertension, heart disease (abnormal cholesterol levels), and obesity are the big four. In the 1980’s Gerald Reaven, a hypertensive Researcher and endocrinologist from Stanford University, put them all together by identifying a common cause – High insulin levels. He called it Syndrome X. For this insight into the disease the American Diabetes Association awarded him the prestigious Banting Award in 1988. This association is now called Metabolic Syndrome. Join us as we explore this relationship and discover strong connections in both pathologic processes and treatment strategies
